Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown criticized the referees following Monday night’s stunning loss to the Utah Jazz after saying a missed call “cost us the game.”

The Celtics held a 1-point lead with less than a minute left when Brown appeared to trip over Jazz guard Keyonte George, who slipped while driving the ball. Brown fumbled, which was recovered by Utah and Lauri Markkanen found the net for a 103-102 lead.

The Jazz overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to win the game 105-103, but Brown blamed NBA officials for the loss.

“You can’t make a mistake like that as a referee at that point in the game,” Brown said, via ESPN. “It’s the fourth quarter, there’s a minute or less left in the game, and you, the whole staff, blows the damn call, you know what I mean? It cost us the game. Unacceptable.”

Team manager Kevin Scott defended the no-call in a group report after the game, stating that Brown slipped in “the same place” as George.

“During the live game, the team observed George slip and fall just before Brown slipped in the same spot, causing the ball to become loose before any contact,” he said via ESPN.
