NYT Strands Today (Game #612): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game number 612 are…
- CHRYSALIS
- CATERPILLAR
- HATCH
- EMIGRATE
- MILKWEED
- SPANGRAM: MONARCHS
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 1 track
The migration of MONARCHS from Canada and the northern states of the US is one of the wonders of the natural world and one of those Strands games that had me reading Wikipedia and downloading podcasts afterwards in an attempt to learn more.
The first cycle ends about now, with millions of butterflies arriving in central Mexico before beginning again in the spring, when those same MONARCHS will fly north in search of milkweed, the only plant on which they lay their eggs and the only plant that the caterpillars will eat and that will make the resulting butterflies toxic to birds, a wonderful self-preservation trick.
Anyway, I digress, finding CHRYSALIS in the top left corner was an easy start, but in other words it was more of a challenge: not as big of a challenge as a small insect traveling 3,000 miles, but a bit exhausting for a Wednesday morning trip.
Top marks also for a butterfly-shaped spangram.
