LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Advocate Gohar Ali Khan reiterated the party’s demand for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, claiming to strongly oppose the 27th constitutional amendment.
Addressing the Lahore High Court, Gohar expressed concern over the judicial backlog and stated that there are 2.3 million cases pending before the subordinate judiciary across the country, including 814,000 criminal cases. In Punjab alone, he noted, 275,000 criminal cases remain unresolved.
He said the growing pendency reflects a judicial system under pressure and highlights the urgent need for institutional reforms.
Regarding the political situation, Gohar stressed that the PTI will continue to seek legal remedies for the release of its founding president.
“We will continue to seek his (Imran’s) release through the courts,” he said.
“When political leaders meet, they talk about the country and the parliament,” he added, noting that “it is not at all unusual for someone to visit Shah Mehmood Qureshi, especially when he is unwell.”
