- A new leak has revealed an upcoming feature for Garmin watches
- Garmin Connect Rundown shows an annual summary of your fitness statistics
- Sheds light on your progress in various sports and metrics.
Annual roundups are all the rage these days (think Spotify Wrapped in the music world, for example), but Garmin users have been missing out on the fun. That situation may not last, however, as a new leak suggests the company is working on an annual summary of your fitness stats to help you better understand how you’ve done over the past 12 months.
The feature is called Garmin Connect Rundown and was first spotted by fitness website the5krunner. There, the outlet claims that Garmin’s feature will use a variety of achievements and categories to quantify your year of fitness.
Although it sounds similar, it is not the same as the Garmin Connect Annual Data Report. This is a public summary of aggregated data from all Garmin users and only provides averages of what Garmin customers have been doing. Garmin Connect Rundown, on the other hand, is a private analysis of your own data, meaning it’s much more personalized to your own efforts.
For example, the5krunner says the Garmin Connect Rundown will measure your milestones in five sports categories: running, cycling, swimming, strength, and parasports. Each has different achievements: Run contains markers for your fastest 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, and your longest run, for example. That should ensure that your progress is recognized in a variety of ways.
There are also more generic contextualizations of your effort, such as distance, elevation, calories burned, time, and steps. These are often measured in unusual or light-hearted ways, such as saying you burned the equivalent of “847 slices of chocolate cake” or traveled a distance enough to cross the English Channel six times.
As for your favorite activity, this one has its own breakdown where Garmin Connect Rundown goes into more detail. The feature will show your top activity, the total number of times you completed such an activity, your monthly counts, and the maximum number of pulses in a day.
In addition to engaging in more vigorous activity, Garmin Connect Rundown also provides insights into your recovery and well-being. This takes the form of your average nightly sleep duration and score, plus your highest sleep score over the past year. Additionally, “body battery” statistics such as average daily charge, consumption and high level are noted.
Garmin Connect Rundown will presumably be available in the Garmin app at some point in the future, although there is no release date yet. It will display your statistics using a combination of graphics and text, while you can share your figures with friends or on social networks.
The best Garmin watches already come with the option to show you evening and morning reports summarizing the previous day’s activities, so Garmin Connect Rundown seems like a natural extension of that idea. If you can see your progress over the past year, it could help you better understand your current fitness levels and where you might be heading in the future.
