HYDERABAD:

A seven-year-old girl, who had been missing for five days, was found dead with her body stuffed in a gunny bag and thrown over the side of a water distributor on Sunday.

This gruesome incident occurred at Baloch Mohalla in Jhalori, a rural town in Shujabad taluka of Mirpurkhas district. Residents of the city, who resorted to protests by closing markets and burning tires, described the incident as nothing less than a nightmare in a peaceful area.

Inspector Inayat Zardari confirmed to the media that the body has been identified as seven-year-old Aamna, daughter of Molana Ghulam Haider Kundrani, a prayer leader at a local mosque. The body, discovered by local residents, was shifted to Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital. The initial medical report indicated torture and rape.

According to Kundrani, it was a normal day for him to see his daughter going to school and coming back during halftime and then returning to school. “Around 2:00 or 2:30 p.m. a classmate left her bag at our house and we thought she might be playing with friends after school,” the crestfallen father told the media.

The family and neighbors began searching for the boy around 4:30 p.m. Kundrani and local residents said they searched every corner of the small rural town but could not find her. He said a neighbor had informed him that he saw his daughter crying outside the school and told him someone was trying to kill her.

Kundrani blamed the police for subjecting him to mental torture instead of making efforts to find the missing child once he reported the missing child case. Molana Hafeezur Rehman, a notable figure from Mirpurkhas, also accused the police of criminal negligence.

“We know that there are drug addicts and criminally minded people in our society. The police should have made serious efforts to find her instead of wasting time.” Rehman warned that if the police continued to show the same indifference they would resort to protests. He urged people to try to feel the pain of a father whose beloved daughter went missing for days and then her body was found packed in a sack.

The Sindh Home Minister has directed SSP Mirpurkhas to provide a detailed report on the case and emphasized the need for a prompt and thorough investigation. He urged authorities to ensure that all facts are uncovered and to keep him regularly informed of developments.

Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah also personally contacted SSP Mirpurkhas and expressed his deep regret over the incident. He ordered the police to prepare a full report and ensure the speedy arrest of those responsible. “This is a heartbreaking tragedy,” he said. “My heart goes out to the grieving family and we will ensure justice is done.”
