NYT Strands Today (Game #618): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game #618 are…
- HARE
- TORTOISE
- MOUSE
- LION
- CRANE
- BULL
- WOLF
- MOSQUITO
- SPANGRAM: FABLEDPAIR
- My rating: Hard
- My score: Perfect
Of all Aesop’s fables, the one that has had the greatest impact on me since childhood has been the TORTOISE and THE HARE, although it is usually the version starring Bugs Bunny and Cecil Turtle that I think about the most.
When I was a marathon runner – a spectacularly slow one – I often thought of Cecil as I floated past those faster runners who had passed me before, but who were forced to walk the last few miles.
And now, as a cyclist, I can’t help but think the same thing, but about car drivers who are so eager to overtake anyone on two wheels but then get stuck at one of London’s thousands of traffic lights (there’s a 20mph speed limit in central London, so the difference between car and cycle traffic is minimal).
Anyway, I digress, this is a fun game and one where I tried to find the pairings, a plan that fell apart more or less immediately as I had no idea in which fable the crane appeared.
Answers from yesterday’s NYT Strands (Monday, November 10, game #617)
- COUNTER
- CLERK
- MANAGER
- RECEPTIONIST
- ASSISTANT
