As the PlayStation 5 celebrates its fifth anniversary, Sony has reported that the console has sold 84.2 million units.
In Sony’s latest financial results for the first half of its fiscal year, the company shared that its Gaming and Network Services division has seen a significant increase in revenue.
It says the PS5 sold 3.9 million units during the latest quarter ending September 30, 2025, which would bring the console’s total sales to 84.2 million.
Sony stated in its latest report that the PS5 had sold 80.3 million units since its launch in November 2020, and with the updated figures, the current-gen console is now far behind the PS4’s lifetime sales of 86 million.
PlayStation Plus monthly active users also increased from 116 million users to 119 million users, and 80.3 million software was sold on both PS5 and PS4 in the second quarter of 2025, up from 77.7 million reported at the same time last year.
6.3 million of those shows include first-party titles on both consoles, which would include titles like Yotei Ghostwhich Sony confirmed that it sold 3.3 million copies in its first month.
With the holiday season approaching, PlayStation hardware and software sales are sure to get another boost, meaning the PS5 has the potential to surpass the lifetime sales of the PS4 in the coming weeks.
