If you like lightweight and streamlined running watches, the Coros Pace series has long offered strong contenders. There was a lot to like about the Pace 3, but there’s tough competition in the form of the Garmin Forerunner 165 and the Fitbit Versa 3. Can Coros keep up? We’re about to find out, as the company has just announced an update to its popular Pace range.
The Coros Pace 4 comes with a variety of upgrades, but still includes the lightweight frame of its predecessor, maintaining its 32g weight when paired with a nylon strap. It should be light enough to not weigh you down when you’re on the trail.
One of the biggest improvements to the Pace 4 is the addition of a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen, bringing this closer to the Coros Pace Pro watch. When we reviewed the Pace 3, we criticized it for its mineral glass LCD screen which could be a little difficult to see in sunlight. With the addition of AMOLED technology, you should be able to enjoy a brighter and clearer display in all conditions.
Coros says it has also improved the watch’s heart rate accuracy, giving you more accurate readings that should better reflect your actual heart health. This is due to a redesigned heart rate sensor that Coros says is capable of reducing peripheral spikes and dips in its measurements.
Even longer battery life
Beyond that, the Pace 4 comes with voice-activated controls thanks to a built-in microphone. That means you can now record workout logs, capture Voice Pins, jot down notes, and more, all without needing to touch your watch screen.
Battery life was always a strong point of the Pace 3, and the Pace 4 has improved it again. At 41 hours, you’ll get more power from the Pace 4 when connected to a five-satellite network than you will from the Pace 3 when connected to two satellites (25 hours). In terms of GPS workouts, that’s pretty impressive.
However, not everything has changed. The design remains the same as you’ll find on the Pace 3, while features like Virtual Pacer and race predictions are carried over from the previous model. We praised the large number of metrics present in the Pace 3, so it’s good to see a lot of that in the new Pace 4.
As for price, the Coros Pace 4 will set you back $249 (£229 GBP) and is available now. That’s a slight increase on the Pace 3’s $229/£219 price, but as affordability was one of the highlights of the previous model, we’re glad to see the price hasn’t skyrocketed too much.
