Checkpoints at all entry and exit points in Lahore reinforced with officers carrying out stricter vehicle inspections
Punjab has been put on high alert after a deadly suicide attack in Islamabad that left several people dead and dozens injured, prompting an immediate review of security across the province.
According to an official notification issued by the Punjab Home Department on Tuesday, law enforcement agencies and district administrations have been directed to enhance surveillance and implement comprehensive security plans to prevent any threat of infection. The department called the Islamabad incident a “cowardly act of terrorism” and warned that such attacks demand a “proactive and coordinated security response” across Punjab.
The circular was issued to all senior officials including inspector general of police, divisional commissioners, regional and municipal police officers, deputy commissioners and Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122).
He ordered them to strengthen security, particularly in sensitive and densely populated areas, and ensure that emergency response teams remain on alert. In Lahore, police began a tightening of security protocols across the province.
A spokesman said additional forces had been deployed around key government offices, courts, shopping malls and critical facilities. Police checkpoints were reinforced at all entry and exit points in the provincial capital, and officers carried out stricter inspections of vehicles and checked identification documents to detect any suspicious movements.
Operations DIG Faisal Kamran directed the divisional superintendents to remain in the field and personally supervise the security operations. He ordered the Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU) teams to increase patrol frequency, especially in high-risk areas, and maintain a visible presence to deter possible attacks.
Search and sweep operations have been intensified in multiple localities in Lahore to ensure that unregistered vehicles or suspicious persons do not escape scrutiny. Police have also stepped up surveillance of public transport terminals, parking areas and government complexes, while judicial and administrative buildings are under additional surveillance.
Authorities have asked the population to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement. Citizens have been urged to immediately report any unusual activity, unattended objects or suspicious people by calling police helpline 15.
A senior Home Department official emphasized that protection of lives and property remains the top priority of the provincial government, adding that coordination between the civil administration and the police has been strengthened to ensure public safety.
