LAHORE:
The 27th Constitutional Amendment Act of 2025 has been challenged before the Lahore High Court (LHC) for allegedly undermining judicial independence and altering the constitutional framework without due consultation.
The petition was filed naming the prime minister, the president of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Justice as respondents.
The petitioner argued that the amendment contradicts the preamble of the Constitution, arguing that it seeks to restrict the powers of the Supreme Court and therefore weakens the independence of the judiciary.
According to the petition, the provisions of the amendment threaten the system of checks and balances provided in the Constitution.
