The West Virginia women’s basketball team pulled off a major upset of No. 15 Duke on Friday night after the odds were stacked even further against them at halftime.
This is because six Mountaineers were ejected after a brief skirmish, leading to WVU being left with just five players for the entire second half.
Duke’s Jordan Wood blocked Jordon Harrison’s 3-pointer to close the first half and yelled in his face in celebration.

As the two exchanged shoves, the Mountaineers bench emptied before the teams separated. Leaving the bank leads to automatic expulsion.
It took officials 15 minutes to sort through all the expulsions. Of the ejections, four were WVU starters.
Trailing 23-20 at halftime, West Virginia came out of the break and outscored the Blue Devils 20-6 in the first six minutes of the third.

The Blue Devils tied it at 53-49 with 37 seconds left before Sydney Shaw made up for some late turnovers and made five of six free throws in the final 43 seconds to secure the win.
“I’m disappointed with the end of the half,” WVU coach Mark Kellogg said. “I think we’re better than that, we’re going to learn a big lesson, but I’m really proud of that group of five.”
