Eddie Murphy didn’t mince words about a loss he found deeply personal.
In his documentary, Being Eddie, The comedian addressed how he felt about not taking home the Oscar for dream girls.
As fans will know, the actor was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2007, but lost to Alan Arkin.
Reflecting on the experience, he said it left him irritated.
“Not winning the Oscar or not winning anything is not my shit. The shit for me is getting dressed up and coming, because normally I wouldn’t go to awards shows,” Murphy reasoned.
“That’s… every time I lose, I’m like, ‘These motherfuckers brought me down to the bottom.’ I could’ve been screwed lost at home. I’m all in the damn tuxedo. What a… waste of time. I never say, ‘Oh, I didn’t win.’ I was like, ‘Hey, you’re making me come here for nothing?'”
Despite the frustration, Murphy insisted he still isn’t fazed by the awards.
“It’s always great to win things, but if I don’t win, I don’t give a damn. I still come home and… I’m still Eddie in the morning.”
