The Sindh government has directed all government officials to pay e-challan traffic fines from their own pockets after seeing a rise in violations in various departments. The news reported on Sunday.

Officials said that since the launch of e-challan system in Karachi, several violations have been committed by government officials driving government vehicles and e-challans are being received at government offices.

In this regard, the government issued an order on Saturday, directing government officials to pay the challans amounts for the violations they had committed from their own pockets.

The letter was also conveyed to the principal members, Board of Revenue (Sindh) (including all members), Chairman Sindh Anti-Corruption and Investigation Establishment, Karachi, Chairman Sindh Planning and Development Board, Karachi, Chairman Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, Karachi, Chairman Sindh Public Service Commission, Karachi, Chairman Sindh Service Tribunal, Karachi, Administrative Secretaries and Commissioners of all Sindh.

The letter conveyed to the mentioned departments reads: “I am directed to refer to the matter mentioned above and state that several traffic e-challans have been received in this department from the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) of Sindh Police under Section 116-A of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965.

“These e-challans have been issued for violation of traffic rules and include various charges such as unfastening seat belt, tinted glasses, jumping a red light and using mobile phone while driving.

“In this regard, the competent authority has granted permission to issue political directions to all administrative departments that all officials and officials using assigned government vehicles will pay e-challans from their own pocket. Therefore, all administrative departments and commissioner offices are requested to ensure strict compliance with the above political directive.”

Meanwhile, speed limit signs have been installed on the city’s largest road, Sharea Faisal.

According to DSP (admin) Kashif Nadeem, the speed limit in Sharea Faisal has been set at 60 kilometers per hour for cars, jeeps and similar vehicles, while the limit for heavy vehicles like buses and trucks has been set at 30 kilometers per hour.

Additionally, the speed limit for motorcycles has also been set at 60 kilometers per hour. Vehicles exceeding the speed limit will be given automated challans through cameras.

The Sindh government recently launched the e-challan system, aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic laws while protecting lives and properties of citizens.
