LAHORE:
Human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari has said the recently passed 27th Amendment aims to create lifelong acceptability for senior officials and has further weakened an already fragile judicial structure.
Speaking at a public meeting on political rights, he argued that the amendment has raised serious concerns about judicial independence, as all judges will now face the constant threat of transfer, restricting the space for independent decision-making.
Imaan said it was essential to inform citizens about the implications of the amendment, noting that any judge who rules against the government may face consequences under the new agreement.
