- James Gunn has finally commented on that rumor Superman spin-off show
- The co-head of DC Studios said that the reports were greatly mistaken in this regard.
- However, it looks like HBO Max TV Original is in development
James Gunn has responded to reports that a Superman The spin-off program is in development.
Last week, several trade media outlets claimed that Gunn’s Superman The film was going to have a spin-off series on HBO Max. The project, which would apparently star Jimmy Olsen, the Daily Planet reporter and unlikely womanizer played by Skyler Gisondo in SupermanIt was also believed to be called DC Crime.
Additionally, it is reported that the DC Universe (DCU) television original would feature the live-action debut of Gorilla Grodd. Grodd, one of The Flash’s most notable enemies, made a brief cameo in episode 4 of the adult animated show. Creature commandsbut will apparently play key antagonistic roles in DC Crime.
However, coming to Threads after a much-needed vacation, Gunn categorically denied that one of the previous rumors had any substance. In fact, the co-head of DC Studios refuted suggestions that the show be called DC Crimebefore indicating that other elements of what was reported may be true.
“Just FYI,” he wrote, “there has never been a project titled DC Crime in development, not even as a working title. I don’t know where that came from but it’s weird. And no, that doesn’t mean the rest of the story is false.”
Reporting for duty
Unfortunately, that’s where Gunn’s comments on the matter end for the moment. So, it’s unclear if Olsen will be the main character of the HBO Max show, if Grodd is involved in this. Superman outbreak, and when we might see it.
Still, the fact that Gunn didn’t take a cold look at the whole thing is proof that another later postSuperman The project is in the works at DC Studios. If you didn’t know, the first one is The man of tomorrowalso known as the cinematic sequel to the aforementioned film that will be released in July 2027.
Considering the amount of franchise construction Superman Had to do, some members of his ensemble, including many of his Daily Planet characters, were reduced to supporting roles. A DCU Chapter One spinoff focusing on this DC comics institution would go a long way toward remedying one of the biggest complaints some viewers, myself included, had with one of 2025’s biggest new movies.
While we wait for more news about this show and Gunn’s next project, find out what we know so far about The man of tomorrow.
