Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has hinted that the first stretch of Malir Expressway will soon be opened to public.
A meeting was held on the progress of Malir Expressway under the chairmanship of Sindh CM, with the participation of Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Special Assistant Qasim Naveed , Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi and IG Karachi Javed Alam Odhno and others.
During the meeting, the CM was informed that the first 9-kilometer stretch of Malir Highway has been completed.
Murad Ali Shah mentioned that he aims to open the first segment to the public on January 11 or 12, Express News reported.
The CM also ordered that Quaidabad interchange be completed in two months and Shah Faisal interchange with Airport Road be improved.
It was further informed that the toll tax for cars on Malir Expressway will be Rs 100, while for buses it will be Rs 200.
A total of 18 toll plazas will be installed along the highway. In addition, between 7 and 8 police vehicles will be deployed to patrol the route.
The CM also ordered vehicle patrolling and automatic toll collection systems to be implemented.
It was also highlighted in the meeting that the Malir Expressway will pass through the jurisdiction of five police stations.
The CM ordered all these police stations to ensure security along the highway.
An ambulance and fire brigade will also be stationed for emergencies, and arrangements must be made for the immediate availability of Rescue 1122 ambulances.
Earlier, CM Murad Ali Shah, without protocol, carried out a surprise morning inspection of the nine-kilometre stretch of Malir Expressway between Jam Sadiq Bridge and Shah Faisal Interchange, demanding its completion by the end of December so that it could be open to traffic.
Addressing the Karachi commissioner, DIG police and DMC representatives, he sternly warned against the invasion.
“The project should be completed by December 30,” CM said, directing engineer Khalid Mansoor to expedite construction.
He highlighted the importance of removing all illegal structures and parking along the highway, from Shah Faisal junction to the airport, to ensure smooth traffic flow.
