One of the main robot vacuum trends of the last 12 months has been robots that can overcome particularly high thresholds. And while the dream of a robovac that can climb stairs on its own remains just that, developments have taken a significant step forward with the launch of a robot vacuum cleaner that has tiny legs.

Launched at CES 2025, the Dreame ProLeap’.
Before this, even the best robot vacuums became pretty useless if you had a house with high room dividers or small steps between rooms. These developments are also useful if you have furniture that has bars that run along the floor, as they can also quickly strand traditional robot vacuums.
It remains to be seen whether Dreame’s small stilts prove to be a more effective approach than Roborock’s quad-like suspension rig or the Shark PowerDetect robovac that moves over high thresholds – we have a review in progress and will report back.
The X50 Ultra Complete appears to be part of a new trend of robot vacuum cleaners with limbs. Elsewhere at CES, Roborock unveiled the Saros Z70, a robot vacuum cleaner with a mechanical arm that can clean your socks. Perhaps not surprisingly, given how competitive the robovac industry is, Dreame is using the event to showcase its own experiments in robotic arm technology, although its own ‘Bionic Multi-Arm Articulated Robotic Arm’ appears to still be in the works. the experimental phase, and that’s it. It is not included in the X50 Ultra Complete.
What else do we know?
Small feet are the obvious main feature of the X50 Ultra Complete, but other notable additions include a shock absorption system that softens collisions and absorbs sound for quieter operation. There is up to 20,000 Pa of suction, which is not quite as high as the 22,000Pa offered by some other new model shown at CES, but it’s still a big step up from most brands’ previous flagships (the Dreame L40 Ultra has “only” 11,000Pa). An extendable side brush and Extendable mop pad helps deliver more thorough edge cleaning.
While we don’t have much information at the moment, the navigation system also seems interesting. Dreame says the X50 Ultra Complete can raise or lower its radar to get an accurate 3D perception of its surroundings, using something called VersaLift navigation.
The Dreame X50 Ultra Complete is scheduled to go on sale in the UK in early February, with a list price of £1,399. We do not yet have details for other territories.
