It’s been a busy day with HBO announcements, as five (!) of their TV shows have been renewed for additional seasons.
Revealed during a press presentation today (Nov. 20), the Warner-owned television network confirmed Task, The chair companyand I love Los Angeles They were all going to have second seasons.
There’s no word on when the trio’s sophomore outings will premiere on HBO and its streaming sibling HBO Max. However, HBO has explained why it gave the green light to more installments of three of its new TV Originals for 2025.
Taskstarring Mark Ruffalo as an FBI agent *ahem* tasked with forming a task force *double ahem* to put an end to a series of violent robberies led by Tom Pelphrey’s complicated family man, has had a debut season to remember. After premiering on one of the world’s top streaming services in September, it has become one of the three fastest-growing shows (from a viewership standpoint) on HBO. With a 96% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes (RT), it was always a matter of when, not if, to begin with. Task Season 2 would receive the green light.
Meanwhile, The chair company and I love Los Angeleswhich HBO has dubbed ‘freshman comedies’, are the first and second best-performing genre shows in HBO history, averaging 3.3 million viewers and 2 million viewers per episode.
Co-created by Tim Robinson, the first follows Ron Trosper (Robinson), a recently promoted project manager who becomes obsessed with a vast conspiracy surrounding (yes, you guessed it) a chair company. Meanwhile, I love Los Angelesco-created and starring Rachel Sennott, it follows a group of Gen Zers as they navigate love and life in the sun-drenched American city.
As TaskThe duo has been hailed by critics as some of the best shows on HBO Max this year, with The chair company commanding a perfect 100% RT rating and I love Los Angeles obtaining an RT score of 94% from the reviewers. The House of the Dragon and The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have also been renovated
The aforementioned shows weren’t the only shows developed internally by HBO to earn another season.
At the same press conference in New York, HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed that he had ordered a fourth season of Dragon Housewhich is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2028, and season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (AKotSK), which will air in 2027.
But wait, there’s more. Bloys also revealed Dragon House Season 3 will premiere in mid-2026, so we don’t have to wait much longer for HBO’s first. game of Thrones prequel will be back on our screens.
For AKotSKIn the debut season, we already know when it will arrive on HBO and HBO Max, in addition to other platforms in countries where this pair is not available. Indeed, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 will be released on January 18 and 19, depending on where you live, so the countdown is already on for its arrival.
