San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall’s rookie season began with a terrifying incident when he was shot in an attempted robbery while shopping.
Pearsall missed a few games but managed to play in 11 games and catch 31 passes for 400 yards. He also scored three touchdowns. The 49ers player said Monday while cleaning his locker room that he wanted to meet with the teenage suspect who was accused of shooting him.

“I don’t know how he grew up, so I can’t judge him as a man just by one action he took,” he said via KNBR. “No matter how violent the crime is, God forbid you do that to another person. I don’t ever want that to happen.”
“For me, just being able to forgive him at the end of the day, I have to be able to forgive him to take that weight off my shoulders. At some point I want to talk to the child and make sure that, If I can create an impact on him in some way, I think it would be really big. I would definitely be open to doing it, for sure.”

A 17-year-old high school senior was charged with attempted murder in the Pearsall shooting and was indicted in September. He also faces charges of assault with a semi-automatic weapon and attempted second-degree robbery, in addition to other weapons charges.
The teen’s attorney, Bob Dunlap, said at the time that his client was sorry for what happened.

“He is truly very sorry that this happened, as is his family, and I can say on his behalf, as well as my own, that our thoughts are with the Pearsall family and Mr Pearsall himself. So there is something genuine , genuine remorse in that regard,” Dunlap said. “He’s a young boy.”
