Paul Mescal has offered a rare look at the emotional weight behind his latest role in Hamnet.
In a new chat with Us weeklyThe actor spoke about filming the pain-filled scenes of the upcoming drama, which follows the love story between William Shakespeare, played by Mescal, and his wife Agnes, played by Jessie Buckley.
For those who don’t know, the couple lost their 11-year-old son, Hamnet, and their devastation following this tragedy ultimately inspired Hamlet.
“You know what? This movie probably seems heavier on the surface than it was.” [to shoot]”Mescal began.
He even addressed that the emotional themes, although intense, did not require him to separate himself from them in any special way afterwards.
Mescal continued: “Obviously, we had to film heavy scenes, but there was nothing [I did to unwind]”.
“I don’t have a ritual of coming home at night. And I probably should, but I don’t.”
Before concluding, he commented: “I can’t think of anything.”
