Why I would buy the JBL Flip 7 instead of the Beats Pill
The JBL and Beats are very similar speakers and both are good buys, especially at Black Friday sale prices.
But I think JBL has the advantage in a few areas that really matter to me, and the most important of those areas is its equalizer: with Beats Pill you’re stuck with its default sound, but JBL’s equalizer can be customized through the app.
That’s useful for everything, of course, but I think it’s particularly useful for podcasts and audiobooks: some male voices are so deep that turning down some of the bass makes them much more listenable. And it’s helpful to go the other way if you’re listening to lo-fi music or old music.
There are other differences too. The Flip is a little smaller and a little lighter, and I prefer its carrying accessory to the long cord on the Beats speaker. It’s more waterproof (IP68 vs. the Pill’s IP67) and I like its buttons better. It has Auracast for speaker sociability and, while it runs out, it’s £10 cheaper. Taking all these things together, I think JBL has the Beats…beat.
