- Apple may be laying off some sales staff
- Reports say several dozen workers were affected across business, government and academic accounts.
- Move seeks to streamline some processes and “connect with more customers”
Apple will reportedly lay off some sales staff as it looks to better focus its efforts on certain sectors.
Reports of Bloomberg have stated that several dozen workers could leave the company, in a rare move for the iPhone maker.
The affected workers apparently focus on the business, government, and academic sectors, which could indicate a change of focus by Apple in these areas.
Layoffs at Apple?
In a statement to BloombergApple said that to “connect with even more customers, we’re making some changes to our sales team that affect a small number of features.”
The publication said that staff responsible for operating Apple’s information centers for institutional meetings and product demonstrations for prospective customers were also affected, with the recent US government shutdown potentially not helping matters.
In its recent financial reports, the company listed around 166,000 full-time employees as of September 27, 2025.
Large-scale layoffs have apparently become commonplace in the tech sector recently, and few companies have emerged unscathed. That said, layoffs are a rare occurrence at Apple, which has largely managed to escape mass layoffs.
Amazon revealed that its plans to cut 14,000 jobs would be implemented in a move apparently influenced by a desire to remain relevant and agile in an ever-changing market.
Verizon also recently revealed that more than 13,000 workers would lose their jobs in a move described by its CEO as an opportunity for the company to better meet customer needs and strengthen its position in the market.
