- Lanterns‘The first trailer was reportedly shown at an invite-only event
- DC Universe TV Show Coming to HBO Max Sometime in Mid-2026
- Its teaser could receive its world premiere before the end of this year.
It’s been a disappointing time for Green Lantern fans, especially in light of *ahem* the recent confirmation that Lanterns will not be released on HBO Max in early 2026.
But, to paraphrase the opening of the Green Lanterns Corps’ oath, brighter days are ahead for the DC Universe (DCU) television show. And, with a new report confirming that its first trailer is not only locked, but was shown at an invite-only event, it may not be long until it is released online.
According to the prestigious Brazilian news outlet Omelete, the first preview of Lanterns received its world premiere at an HBO Max Upfronts presentation yesterday (November 25). The trailer was not leaked online, but the Omelete team was present and described what they saw. Possible spoilers follow Lanternsso come back now if you don’t want anything to be ruined before its time.
What does the first preview of Lanterns tell us?
According to Omelete, the trailer shows Kyle Chandler’s Green Lantern veteran Hal Jordan teaching Aaron Pierre’s newcomer John Stewart how to be an elite member of the intergalactic space police agency.
The pair are later seen arguing, with Stewart trying to irritate Jordan by suggesting that he is a better Green Lantern and more effective at saving people. The trailer also offers a brief glimpse of Jordan flying, as well as numerous shots of the US Midwest, which is the setting for this DCU Chapter One sci-fi mystery thriller series.
Elsewhere, Omelete reveals that a Green Lantern squirrel is mentioned (yes, you read that right). DC comics fans don’t need me to tell you that this is probably a reference to Ch’p, an anthropomorphic rodent-like alien who is also part of the Green Lantern Corps. If Ch’p ends up being part of the process, he would be a perfect addition to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, which strives to bring DC Comics’ strangest and wackiest creations to life on screens big and small.
Finally, Omelete says that the trailer did not reveal the DCU version of the iconic costumes worn by the Green Lantern Corps. I expect a big reveal like this to be delayed until HBO TV Original debuts next year, so it’s not a huge surprise that no costume trailers were shown.
With a little luck, LanternsThe first trailer will be released worldwide before the end of 2025. From what I hear, DC Studios will have a presence at this year’s Comic-Con Brazil (CCXP), which will be held from December 4 to 7. It’s possible, then, that the inaugural trailer for one of the most exciting DCU movies and TV shows will be shown there and released online soon after.
While we wait, find out everything we know so far about Lanterns. Once you’re done, get all the information Lanterns‘ talented chief creative team and why one of its showrunners says it’s “both a buddy cop show and a superhero show.”
