ISLAMABAD:

Awaam Pakistan Party (APP) convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday criticized the government, saying the current regime has failed in governance and control of corruption, while raising concerns over the handling of the recent IMF report.

Addressing a press conference in the federal capital alongside party leader Miftah Ismail, Abbasi said the IMF report highlighted several issues affecting the country’s economy, including issues relating to the judiciary, which the government had allegedly kept hidden from the public.

“This is essentially a summary of the points we have been making for a long time. The IMF report contains nothing new,” Abbasi said. “The government has failed to improve governance or control corruption. We must take the IMF’s findings seriously.”

Abbasi questioned why the government delayed releasing the report to the public. He also highlighted the country’s economic challenges, stating that unemployment has reached an all-time high of 7.1 percent, prompting many young Pakistanis to seek opportunities abroad.
