- Two major boutique PC makers warn of memory-driven price increases
- Maingear CEO tells us to consider buying now as RAM prices will continue to rise
- CyberPowerPC says prices for its gaming PCs will increase starting December 7 due to rising RAM prices
If you want more proof that Black Friday might be the best time to buy a new PC, we just got a couple more details (among other recent warnings).
It’s not just about new PCs, but specifically about the sharp increase in the price of memory, so system RAM is now suddenly very expensive, as is storage (a different type of memory, of course). The combined rise in the cost of RAM and SSDs means that pressure is being put on the price of new desktop computers that have these components inside. (GPUs are also another casualty here, as these boards use video RAM, compounding the difficulties for PC makers.)
The first nugget comes from Wccftech interviewed PC maker Maingear CEO Wallace Santos and asked him what advice he would give to consumers building or upgrading a PC, given the possibility that analysts have raised that the memory shortage could continue into 2027.
Santos noted: “We have already seen DRAM prices skyrocket due to shortages and we are holding off on those price changes for our customers as long as we can. For consumers who are interested in purchasing a new PC or upgrading the GPU, SSD or RAM in their current system, they should consider buying now and look for deals that have not yet seen price increases.”
In addition to that, VideoCardz noted that CyberPowerPC, another pre-built computer supplier, announced on X that the prices of its gaming PCs will increase starting December 7 due to unfavorable market conditions, namely increases in memory prices.
CyberPowerPC says that RAM prices have increased by 500% and SSD prices have doubled, and that this obviously has a direct impact on the cost of its gaming PCs, an effect that has been felt since early October.

Analysis: RAM Boosters
CyberPowerPC is right when it points out that October was when RAM prices really skyrocketed, after several months of warnings that this was going to happen. Although no one predicted the magnitude of these increases (which actually started in late September, from what I’ve seen, but that’s really nitpicking; the gist is that it’s a recent development).
Has the price of memory increased sixfold in the last two months? Well, no, at least not for consumers. RAM kits have doubled in cost or, at worst, almost tripled, which is still a nightmarish increase, of course.
So if you’re thinking about buying a new PC, a Black Friday deal will probably be your best option for quite some time. Because, first, you’ll likely be able to find some sort of discount, and second, you’ll get in before these price increases really start to be felt.
As Maingear’s CEO points out, the PCs it sells now were protected from price increases, since the components were purchased a while ago. But that won’t be the case for much longer, and in fact Santos makes it clear that the situation is going to get worse, saying: “I anticipate that prices will continue to rise and we will eventually have to increase our delivery times as stock and allocation become limited.”
Although CyberPowerPC talks about “temporary” price increases, don’t let that give you the impression that they will be short-lived; it simply means that they will not be permanent. As to as Although these increases are temporary, the general rumor suggests that 2026 will be a bad year for memory prices and perhaps we could witness a real RAM drought.
Add the usual warning about not having a crystal ball, but it’s getting to the point where it’s hard to believe that this memory shortage won’t be a full-blown crisis for much, if not all, of next year, and perhaps into 2027. And if you’re looking at PC components, it’s too late for RAM, but a Black Friday deal on an SSD or particularly a graphics card could also be a smart move. We also have the best Black Friday laptop deals if you want to go that route too.
