Dar asks for ECO connectivity


Dar underlined the important role of ECO in fostering prosperity, economic integration and connectivity.

ISLAMABAD:

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Ishaq Dar on Friday highlighted the need for ECO member states to enhance cooperation on sustainable transport, transit trade, customs harmonization and climate resilient infrastructure.

The MP/FM addressed the 29th OCE Council of Ministers (COM) Meeting held virtually, where he urged joint efforts by member countries to combat terrorism, which threatens regional economic progress.

In his speech, the MPD congratulated Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev for successfully organizing the ECO-COM meeting. He also appreciated the contributions of Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, and OEC Secretary-General, Ambassador Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, for their leadership in advancing the OEC agenda.

Prime Minister Dar underlined the important role of ECO in fostering prosperity, economic integration and connectivity. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the ECO Vision 2025 and expressed Pakistan’s intention, as the incoming Chairman of the ECO COM, to work closely with Member States to finalize the ECO Vision 2026-2035.

The deputy prime minister emphasized Pakistan’s priority of strengthening multi-modal transport corridors, harmonizing customs frameworks and aligning transport systems for smooth regional integration.
