The hunting wives Season 2 is officially in production, which means more Akerman, Snow… and that The wig is on the way.
When Sophie (Brittany Snow) arrives in town, her ringleader, Margo (Malin Akerman), quickly integrates her into their lives. And while it all seems like harmless fun at first, it quickly turns ugly and culminates in a diabolical ending. Not forgetting the obsessive romance that arises between Margo and Sophie, just to complicate things a little.
So what’s next for this gripping thriller? Here’s everything we know so far about The hunting wives season 2 confirmed cast, expected release date, plot rumors, news and more.
The Hunting Wives season 2: is there a release date?
Hold on to your wigs, The hunting wives is officially back in production for season 2, as confirmed by none other than Margo, aka Malin Akerman, in an official Instagram post in November 2025.
The production news follows the show’s rapid renewal less than two months after it premiered on Netflix. So, it was inevitable that this day would come, but now that it really has, we can make a tentative guess about the release date.
While there has been no official word, it’s a guessing game, but given that season 1 reportedly took around 5 months to film and came out a year later, I’d predict we’ll see late 2026, early 2027.
The Hunting Wives season 2: has a trailer been released?
Given that The hunting wives Season 2 only went into production in November, there is still some time before the official trailer is released.
As is the case with most Netflix shows, the trailer will be released about a month before the show premieres, so I don’t expect it anytime soon. However, once it finally arrives, I’ll be sure to update it here.
The Hunting Wives season 2: cast confirmed
While we don’t have much to say about the release date or trailer, we do know that the following cast will be returning for The hunting wives season 2, thanks to Tudum:
- Brittany Snow as Sophie
- Malin Akerman as Margo
- Dermot Mulroney as Jed Banks
- Jaime Ray Newman as Callie
- Evan Jonigkeit as Graham
- George Ferrier as Brad
- Karen Rodríguez as Deputy Salazar
- Hunter Emery as Deputy Flynn
- Branton Box as Sheriff Jonny
The body count of The hunting wives Season 1 was high. Four, in total, met their end and here is the fair warning to look away now if you don’t know who those four people are.
As expected, we imagine the following characters won’t be returning, given that they were killed off in Season 1, and they are Abby (Madison Wolfe), Abby’s mother Starr (Chrissy Metz), Jill (Katie Lowes), and Margo’s brother Kyle (Michael Aaron Milligan).
But here’s the interesting thing, in the Instagram post for the season 2 renewal (which appears above under the release date), Katie Lowes appears in the images. So whether there is a flashback or a mysterious return of his character, we will have to wait and see.
The Hunting Wives season 2: story synopsis and rumors
Full spoilers for The hunting wives season 1.
After a lot of drama (and death) in the Season 1 finale, there’s a lot to resolve in Season 2, from illicit affairs to full-blown murders, but thankfully the plan seems to be to do exactly that.
Thanks to Tudum, we know that the next installment will be a continuation of the story based on an original script with this official tagline: “Sophie and Margo are on the sidelines. But soon, old secrets and new enemies force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises: are they the hunters or the hunted?”
And speaking about her hopes for season 2, Brittany Snow told Glamor: “I would love nothing more for Sophie to have a little more guidance and not be manipulated so easily, because once you find out that your girlfriend was murdered, I think things change a little bit quickly.
“But it puts Sophie and Margo on equal footing in a lot of ways that I think are very interesting to explore, because now Sophie is also a murderer. I’ll be interested to see how that dynamic develops, and I hope that she doesn’t forgive Margo and that it takes a lot more to bring them back together.”
Sophie and Margo’s volatile relationship was the core of the story, but with body bags galore and no afterlife resolution for any of the victims, there’s still a lot to unravel.
And speaking to Variety in July 2025, ahead of the official season 2 renewal, showrunner Rebecca Cutter shared some of her plans: “I think we would do a little time jump. – not a year, but a time. At the end of filming, I realized that the two driving forces of the series are the detective story and the Margo/Sophie relationship, and tracking how those thorns cross each other.”
He also added, “I think it would be smart to introduce a new murder mystery. But we’re still in the early stages. I still don’t know who it was or who did it!”
Considering the cameras are now rolling on Season 2, the whodunnit and whodunit needs to be nailed down and ready to go, and while May Cobb’s book of the same name formed the basis for Season 1, the show has made big changes from the beginning. So, it will be interesting to see where he goes next.
Will there be more seasons of The Hunting Wives?
It’s hard to say now. With The hunting wives Season 2 only went into production in November 2025 and with no confirmed release date on the horizon, talks about season 3 seem a bit far off.
However, as always, we will keep our ears open and our eyes peeled for any evidence that may inform you here if we get any information.
