Levoit’s New Pet Parent Air Purifier Will Turn on the Fans When It Detects Your Dog Stinks

  • The Levoit Pet Odor & Hair Air Purifier is specifically for pet owners
  • It can detect “key substances” in the air and increase airflow in response.
  • Motion sensors also allow you to create routines.

Levoit just launched an air purifier that’s aimed specifically at pet owners, and it’s enough to give your dog a complex. The Levoit Pet Odor & Hair Air Purifier will be unveiled at CES 2025 and has a number of features that I haven’t seen anywhere else among today’s best air purifiers.

First, it is programmed to quickly detect “key substances” such as isovaleric acid, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. In case you’re not well versed in scientific terms related to bodily functions, I Googled it and I think that roughly translates to sweat, pee, and farts. It will then adjust the fan speed to clean the air in double the time, while a carbon filter helps neutralize odors. It has not been confirmed whether it also works for human odors.

Secondly, there is a motion detection system that adjusts settings based on what is happening in the home at the time. This appears to be powered by the brand’s ‘Smart Scene technology’, which uses AI to create routines. For example, you could increase the airflow when you go out to walk your dog and then reduce it when you return, returning to a fresh-smelling home. The press information also lists “behavioral anticipation” features, although it does not go into further detail about them.

There’s a companion VeSync app that visualizes odor levels and trends in your home and can (satisfyingly) create a countdown to keep track of purification tasks. Here, you’ll also be able to view air analysis reports and see how much time you have left before you need to replace your filter (here’s more information on how air purifiers work and what air purifiers can help with, if that’s helpful).

The Standard Pet Hair and Odor Air Purifier will go on sale on Amazon in Q2 (i.e. sometime between early April and late June) and will cost $199 (around £160 / AU$320 ). There will also be a more advanced self-cleaning model available from major retailers, with a list price of $249 (around £200 / AU$400).
