The New York Giants special teams are having a tough night in Foxborough, as kicker Younghoe Koo had the strangest first field goal attempt in the “Monday Night Football” matchup against the New England Patriots.
After tight end Theo Johnson failed to make a touchdown reception, the Giants looked to make it a seven-point game with a 47-yard field goal by Koo, who has kicked for New York in the last three games.
But when Koo made his kick, for some reason, he stuck his foot in the grass and was limp without making contact with the ball.

It appeared that Koo’s left foot was too close to the ball, which could have deflected it. But he simply missed the kick, and starter and punter Jamie Gillan was hit by several Patriots for what is technically a sack on the stat sheet.

The play was a massive momentum shift as the Giants got a stop they desperately needed after a touchdown drive in what was a 17-0 game to start.
The reason for the large deficit was another special teams blunder by the Giants, but an impressive display by the Patriots when Marcus Jones ran back a Gillan punt 94 yards for the first touchdown of the game.

And things got worse for New York after the Patriots made it 24-7 thanks to a perfectly thrown ball by Drake Maye to Kyle Williams, while Giants returner Gunner Olszewski was hit by Christian Elliss on a kick return.
He fumbled after helmet-to-helmet contact and the Patriots recovered. They would eventually add another three points on the scoreboard.
New York came into this primetime matchup having the exact opposite season of the Patriots, who have won their last nine games. The Giants have lost six straight games, and their loss to the Detroit Lions in overtime last week officially eliminated them from playoff contention.

There was some hope, however, as rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was out of concussion protocol. But special teams setbacks ruined any momentum the Giants had as they entered the locker room trailing 30-7 in Foxborough.
