Angelina Jolie Takes on Fierce New Role as Production Begins Sunnya dark and emotionally charged thriller directed by Eva Sørhaug.
Jolie, 50, plays a woman drawn into the violent world of organized crime as she fights to protect her children and herself from an abusive drug dealer.
After a devastating event shakes his life, the gangster only has hours to figure out how to escape for good. The film is described in the spirit of classic mafia stories, but with a feminine twist at the center.
The project advances just days after a milestone for Jolie’s family, when her son Pax turned 22.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt adopted Pax in 2006 from Vietnam, shortly after the birth of their daughter, Shiloh.
He spent his early childhood at the Tam Binh orphanage on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, where life was structured and confined.
Reflecting on that period, Jolie shared a time that Pax “went through [three and a half] years of his life in one place, in one room, in this little iron bed with 20 other children, and without having the choice to do things, without freedom.”
She recalled how drastically her life changed after joining her family.
“And all of a sudden, here he is in a very free situation with new brothers and sisters and a mom and dad,” he said at the time.
Jolie added that she quickly embraced her new world, explaining that “he’s learning English and he’s very loving and wild and free because suddenly he has freedom.”
With Sunny Now on the move, Jolie returns to the kind of intense, layered character that has long defined her career.
And as production progresses, their family milestone adds a personal moment of reflection along with an important new professional chapter.
