A cryptocurrency investor has made a £9 million ($12 million) donation to the U.K. political party Reform, according to a document filed by the Electoral Commission on Thursday.
The donation from Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based businessman who has invested in stablecoin issuer Tether and cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, has, according to a Financial Times report, been described by several outlets as the largest donation to a UK political party by a living person. The all-time record of £10 million was a donation from Lord John Sainsbury to the Conservative Party in his will in 2022.
Harborne previously donated to Nigel Farage-led Reform in 2019, when it was called the Brexit Party, and has also donated to the Conservatives over the years.
The donation meant Reform received more donations than any other UK party in the third quarter of 2025.
Nigel Farage, whose party has led the polls for much of this year, has attempted to court the crypto vote by accepting cryptocurrency donations and promising to establish a bitcoin reserve if elected to government.
Harborne’s donation was in cash, not cryptocurrency.
