LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court has been asked to challenge the ordinance issued to allow kite flying in Punjab.
The petition was filed by lawyer Azhar Siddique, chairman of the Judicial Activism Panel, an NGO.
According to the petitioner, the ordinance regarding kite flying was issued on the instructions of Nawaz Sharif and is in conflict with the Constitution.
The petition maintains that granting permission to Basant poses a grave threat to human life as previous festivals have led to multiple deaths. The petitioner has asked the court to stay the implementation of the ordinance until the provincial assembly approves the legislation.
