Margot Robbie responds to criticism of ‘Wuthering Heights’

Margot Robbie talks about the wave of criticism surrounding her and Jacob Elordi’s election Wuthering Heights.

In a recent interview with British Voguehe Barbie The star acknowledged the hype, especially surrounding her portrayal of Catherine, a role originally described as a brunette teenager, explaining, “I get it. There’s nothing else to blow up right now until people see the movie.”

Robbie also defended the casting of Elordi as Heathcliff, even though fans noted that the character is described in the novel as “dark-skinned.”

She said: “I saw him play Heathcliff… And he’s Heathcliff. I’d say, wait. Trust me, you’ll be happy.”

He continued: “He’s incredible and I believe in him a lot. I honestly think he’s the Daniel Day-Lewis of our generation.”

Director Emerald Fennell weighed in on her creative reasoning, saying that for her version of Cathy – “headstrong, mean-spirited, a recreational sadist, a provocateur” – she needed an actor with “oversized star power.”

Fennell said Robbie brings exactly that energy, calling it “big dick energy. That’s what Cathy needs.”

With the opening date of Wuthering Heights Scheduled for February 13, 2026, Robbie said he hopes viewers will wait to judge until they’ve seen the full performance.

Until then, she seems confident in the choice, casting and all.
