Terence Crawford criticized the World Boxing Council (WBC) after the organization stripped him of his undisputed super middleweight world title for failing to pay sanctions for his last two fights.

The undefeated American boxer won the title after defeating Canelo Álvarez by unanimous decision in September. The fight was sanctioned by all four major sanctioning bodies, including the World Boxing Association (WBA), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO), qualifying the fight as an undisputed title fight.

But on Wednesday, the WBC stripped Crawford of his belt. The sanctioning body said it had revised its rate to 0.6% from the standard 3%. He also claimed that Crawford had supposedly earned $50 million from the fight.

The WBC claimed that Crawford had also not paid a previous fee for his fight against Israil Madrimov in August 2024.

“The WBC sent multiple communications to champion Crawford, his manager and his legal counsel. Unfortunately, the WBC received no acknowledgment or response to any of those communications,” the statement read.

“The WBC had no choice but to act, considering that Champion Crawford had received ample notice and multiple opportunities to address and resolve the situation.”

But in a fiery, profanity-filled tirade shared on Instagram, Crawford responded to accusations about how much he won in the Alvarez fight and even accused WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán of favoritism.

“I have something to say. I have a lot to say,” he began. “I see that Mauricio has a lot to say about me not paying him $300,000, plus $100,000 and something like that for sanctions, right?

“You can take the damn belt! It’s a trophy anyway,” he continued his long rant.
