Meghan Markle’s wounds remain unhealed despite her decision to say goodbye to royal life.
The Duchess of Sussex’s alleged ‘secret battle’ to steal the future queen’s limelight continues as she leaves no stone unturned to achieve her goals.
The former actress is struggling to match the magic of Princess Catherine. A source has confirmed that the rivalry between the two royal wives is still alive and well, given Meghan’s recent stunts.
Last week, the duchess delivered her festive special Meghan, with love series just days before the Princess of Wales made headlines for her star-studded Together at Christmas Carols concert at Westminster Abbey.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams says Meghan still feels a “rivalry” with Kate, dating back to their time as the Fab Four with Princes Harry and William.
“If you look at the timing of a lot of the things the Sussexes have done, there’s often a clash with William and Kate,” Richard adds: “Recently, for example, there was Harry’s visit to Canada at the same time as William’s Earthshot trip.”
He continued: “Harry reportedly made an offer to share diaries earlier this year to avoid confrontations, but if the offer was accepted, nothing appears to have come of it.”
While Meghan’s holiday special was likely filmed months ago, Robert says the unfortunate timing of its release hasn’t done it any favors.
“It’s a decidedly dysfunctional situation to have Meghan on television talking about love and family while her father is said to be fighting for his life in the hospital,” he said.
Reacting to Meghan’s latest show, the commentator suspects the duchess might retire her lifestyle show entirely, adding: “Meghan is secretly struggling to emulate some of the magic that Kate clearly creates, but it’s not working.”
He admired Kate’s Christmas concert on Meghan’s Christmas special and said: She [ Meghan] He showed an almost relentless positivity, which is actually tiring to watch. It seems like she would like to be a kind of Californian Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way, and that’s why her show doesn’t have the same level of substance as Kate’s Christmas carol concert.
Meghan’s special, as expected, made it into Netflix’s top 10 TV shows in the UK within 24 hours of airing, but critics weren’t very impressed.
British newspaper reviews, mostly one or two stars, described it as “bizarre” and one reviewer said it was “quite mad and a bit sad”.
Meanwhile, some royal fans described it as another failed attempt to upstage Kate’s events as Meghan changes her launch plans.
Some of Meghan’s fans took to social media to show their support, with one writing on X that it “lifted their spirits” and another claiming they loved the “lovely show.”
However, Richard suspects this is the last we’ll see of the series, and Meghan and Harry will have to bring something big to the table if they want to keep contact alive.
“The problem is that in the position he is in with his downgraded deal with Netflix, which is not an unusual position, he needed a big name,” Richard told the Mirror.
