Wicked Director Jon M. Chu talked about how he decided to cast Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
The filmmaker revealed that the studio did not pressure him regarding the film’s casting.
Jon knew from the first meeting that they both fit the roles of Glinda and Elphaba perfectly. I knew their chemistry together would make the film a huge hit.
“At first I thought, let’s keep it open to anyone. The studio never pressured us about names or followers. Not a word,” he said. Crazy rich asians added the director.
Recalling the first meeting with the actresses, Chu said, “When Cynthia comes in and sings, you feel it in your bones. And when Ari sat there and became Glinda, there was no doubt.”
The director says that people saw the magic now, but he saw it too soon.
he said Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, “I knew what everyone is seeing now; I was able to see it on the fourth day.”
Today Wicked It is known as one of the blockbusters in cinemas.
