Watch the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix live broadcasts as the 2025 Formula 1 season reaches its most tense finale. Lando Norris leads Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by just 12 points and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by 16 with the drivers’ championship set up perfectly for a three-way fight on the final race weekend of the season. Motorsport doesn’t get any better than this.
Any podium will be enough for Norris to claim his first title, while defending champion Verstappen will win a fifth consecutive championship if he takes the checkered flag and Norris is fourth or worse. Piastri is the outsider and will need misfortune to happen to at least one of his rivals for the title.
Mercedes’ George Russell is fourth, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc fifth and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso sixth. Lewis Hamilton was knocked down in the first round of qualifying for the third consecutive grand prix, saying he felt “an unbearable amount of anger and rage”.
Norris arguably should have finished this weeks ago, but he has struggled to get over the line. In Qatar last weekend, McLaren attempted to put the Briton above Piastri, denying him victory at the expense of Verstappen’s victory.
The Dutchman, however, has been extraordinary, scoring 213 points out of a possible 257 in the last nine Grands Prix to put pressure on the McLaren rookies.
“I’m incredibly happy to be first,” Verstappen said after Saturday’s qualifying. “That’s the only thing we can do: try to maximize everything with the car.”
Will team tactics come into effect? If Verstappen leads and Norris is behind Piastri, needing a place to take the title, don’t bet against it…
