- Same general design as before, but two new colors.
- Retuned to improve audio performance
- Guilt-free with 100% fair-mined metals
Sustainable technology company Fairphone has introduced a new version of its eco-friendly over-ear headphones, and we’ve already tested them in our in-depth review of the Fairbuds XL 2025.
The basic design of the cute 2023 debut set hasn’t changed, so the joystick control we enjoyed so much in the original is still present and still charming.
The drivers are also the same 40mm versions as before, but the new version has been retuned to improve the audio. We haven’t noticed a huge difference, but the warmer sounds sound a little more convincing. And with aptX HD you can get very high quality streaming from phones and other compatible devices.
There are two new colors: forest green and horizon black, and the battery life promises 30 hours of continuous listening.
Fairbuds XL: greater sustainability at a reasonable price
The big selling point of Fairphone products isn’t really the technology; It is sustainability and environmental responsibility. And that’s improved in these new versions: their cobalt, copper and silver are 100% fairly mined, their rare earth elements are 100% recycled, and they’re assembled using 100% renewable energy – all new to Fairphone’s audio products.
The new Fairbuds XL are also LONGTIME certified, and the previous two-year warranty has been extended to three years. And they’re designed modularly, meaning you should be able to replace batteries when they reach the end of their life or repair accidental damage instead of sending your headphones to landfill.
The Fairbuds XL are available now at a recommended retail price of £219/$299 (around AU$439).
