ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI:
The PTI has written a letter to the Senate President, demanding the immediate formation of a parliamentary committee to review what it called “solitary confinement” and “violations of fundamental rights” of party founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, as well as his wife Bushra Bibi, in Adiala Jail.
In its letter, the party said senators were constitutionally empowered to review the conditions of any citizen in custody, particularly a former prime minister and an elected member of the National Assembly. The PTI proposed the names of senators Ali Zafar, Hamid Khan, Azam Swati and Mishal Azam for the parliamentary committee.
“All senators wish to express grave concern over the illegal solitary confinement and continued violation of fundamental rights of President Imran Khan,” the letter said.
“The conditions in which he is detained raise serious constitutional, legal and humanitarian concerns,” he added. The party said it was shocked by the “isolation and treatment given to Bushra Bibi”. “Subjecting a woman to physical and mental hardship is a violation of basic human rights.
