NYT Connections Today (Game #578): The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game #578 are…
- YELLOW: SELLER’S PLACE IN A MARKET STAND, STAND, STAND, TABLE
- GREEN: DOG ORDERS COME, HEEL, SIT, STAY
- BLUE: CORPORATE DEPARTMENTS FINANCE, IT, LEGAL, SALES
- PURPLE: LAST WORDS IN “AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL” FROM, SEA, BRIGHT, TO
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: Perfect
It’s a strange feeling for the purple group to come second, and I haven’t experienced it often. “FROM THE SEA TO THE SHINING SEA” seemed almost too obvious, like an obvious yellow group.
My first thought about today’s words were Stephen King’s novels – IT, THE SHINE, THE STAND – and that’s as far as I got before seeing LAST WORDS OF “AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL” and DOG COMMANDS.
THE SELLER’S PLACE IN A MARKET did not include the best one: a blanket on the floor, the place most used by someone who does not have an official place in the market. There is a Saturday market near me where another “place” comes into play: an open suitcase on top of a trash can. This is an exclusive sales style for perfumes of dubious origin, the necessary suitcase for quick departures. It is best to limit yourself to vendors with a STAND, STATION, STAND or TABLE.
Answers from yesterday’s NYT Connections (Wednesday, January 8, Game #577)
- YELLOW: SECTION BRANCH, DIVISION, MEMBER, WING
- GREEN: ACCESSORIES FOR PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT BOW, RAMDUCK, MALLET, PICK
- BLUE: DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ELEPHANT EAR, MEMORY, TRUNK, FANG
- PURPLE: MISSPELLED WORDS IN NU METAL BAND NAMES COOKIE, CORN, LINCOLN, STAINED
What are NYT connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically need to solve the final question since you’ll be able to answer it through a process of elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little breathing room.
However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, be careful with homophones and other puns that could disguise answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
