Blockstream Capital to acquire hedge fund Corbiere and expand multi-strategy investing

Crypto investment firm Blockstream Capital Partners (BCP) plans to acquire Corbiere Capital Management, a Jersey-based equity hedge fund founded by Rodrigo Rodríguez in 2023, the company said in a press release on Thursday.

Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

BCP said the deal with Corbiere will add event- and equity-driven strategies to its existing bitcoin-linked products, creating a multi-strategy platform aimed at institutional investors.

The firm said the combination is designed to enable more diversified portfolios that combine traditional securities with bitcoin-referenced exposures.

Rodríguez will become chief investment officer of Blockstream Capital Management, a new asset management entity within BCP.

He has more than 25 years of experience in equities and event-driven strategies, including positions at JPMorgan (JPM), Credit Suisse, and BlueCrest, where he served as CIO of their event-driven portfolio.

Corbiere’s team focuses on global equity markets, corporate actions and tactical trading.

Komainu, a digital asset custodian in which BCP is an investor, will provide custody, exchange connectivity, collateral management and related corporate support through its Komainu Connect platform.

“At the core of our mission to build the world’s leading institutional investment platform referenced in bitcoin is the acquisition of experienced investment teams with specific complementary expertise in alpha-focused investment strategies,” PeterPaul Pardi, managing partner at Blockstream Capital Partners, said in the statement.

“The increase in activity around bitcoin treasury companies and publicly traded companies that hold bitcoin as an asset on their balance sheet makes it critical to understand how that translates into stock prices and volatility,” Rodriguez said in the statement.

BCP is affiliated with Blockstream CEO Adam Back and invests in all types of assets, including venture capital, public and private equity, credit, real estate and insurance, with a focus on Bitcoin-related financial products and infrastructure.
