The best streaming services are still making sure we have plenty to watch as we count down the days to the 2025 Christmas period.
In fact, it’s been another great week of new movies and shows. In fact, the competition has once again become so fierce that the final season of the children’s television series Star Wars Adventures of the Young Jedi and the latest Spanish youth romantic film from Amazon tell me softly I haven’t even made the list. This tells you everything you need to know about the strength of this weekend’s lineup.
But I digress. Let’s not waste any more time diving into what’s worth streaming before Monday comes around again. – Tom Power, Senior Entertainment Reporter
Wake Up, Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Netflix)
Look
What does “it’s almost Christmas” say like the family arguing over a whodunnit movie? I guarantee you that you will not be able to guess the culprit in Knives out 3also known as Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
If you are a traditionalist when it comes to your criminal antics, Knives out 3 is the story of the trilogy made for you. Even if you’re not, it’s certainly Benoit Blanc’s (Daniel Craig) most successful outing yet.
There are darker forces at play this time around: Without giving too much away, it’s an Easter Sunday resurrection gone wrong. New clergyman Jud (Josh O’Connor) is our real standout character, while meddlesome church secretary Martha (Glenn Close) is giving full levels of internal crisis pantomime. look at me Knives out 3 review to learn more about why it’s the best entry in the series yet.
Many secrets are closely guarded… but can you guess what they are before you watch them on Netflix? – Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter
Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 (Disney+)
Look
Our favorite demigod is back. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. After a very successful first run and receiving a solid Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, we now move on to the plot of Rick Riordan’s second book, also known as ‘Sea of Monsters’.
The Disney+ series is possibly the best adaptation we’ve ever had and it’s been a pleasure to revisit a book series I enjoyed as a teenager years ago. This season you can expect more monsters, even bigger stunts and some exciting new features.
The first two episodes are streaming now and are worth watching back to back. This has the potential to be better than season 1 and I’m already invested. – Lucy Buglass, Senior Entertainment Writer
F1: The Movie (Apple TV)
Look
The last big Apple TV launch of the year, F1: The Movie has finally approached the tech giant’s streaming platform. And, after garnering critical and commercial praise upon its initial theatrical release, it took the top spot on my list of things to watch this weekend.
The Apple and Warner Bros. company stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a fellow Formula 1 title winner who comes out of retirement to try to finally win the World Championship. He ends his 30-year exile to also help his former teammate’s ailing team, which counts Damson Idris’ passionate and promising Joshua Pearce among its talented roster.
An exciting sports drama that brings you as close to the action as humanly possible, the latest feature film from Top Gun: Maverick Director Joe Kozinski is not only one of the best Apple TV movies of all time, but also one of the best movies of 2025. Run to your couch and stream it ASAP. – T.P.
Merv (main video)
Look
It’s not Christmas unless you’ve seen at least one heartwarming romantic comedy, so why not take a chance on this new Prime Video movie starring Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox?
Merv It’s guaranteed to strike a chord, because at the center of this feel-good story is a scruffy rescue terrier named Gus who just wants his owners to get back together so life can get back to normal. In an effort to lift Gus’ spirits, his estranged owners take him on a getaway to Florida, but could the trip also end up mending their own broken hearts?
Dog movies have a habit of tearing our hearts out, but this is one of the healthier new Prime Video movies, making it ideal for anyone who wants to root for this dog to wag his tail again. – Amelia Schwanke, Senior Entertainment Editor
Taylor Swift | The Tour of Eras | The end of an era (Disney+)
Look
Are you ready for it? You’ll love Taylor Swift’s new docuseries The end of an era So much so that you’ll want to binge it forever (sorry, I’ll stop now).
Not only will we get a new version of the Tour of the eras film that eventually includes ‘The Department of Tortured Poets’, but the six-part documentary series will finally allow us to understand exactly how it all came about.
Think about how Taylor came up with the idea of hiding in a mop cart to get her on stage, that surprise performance by Travis Kelce during Wembley’s third night, and how the woman keeps coming up with so many amazing Easter eggs. The life of a showgirl, that’s what it really is (sorry, couldn’t resist). – joint venture
Roofer (Paramount+)
Look
A mild-mannered convicted thief who escapes from prison and hides out in a Toys ‘R’ Us store for six months, only to fall in love with one of the sales associates, is not a story you come across every day.
It’s easy to see why director Derek Cianfrance was drawn to the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, which ultimately inspired him to make roofer. The new Paramount+ film has all the makings of a thrilling crime drama with an intimate romance at its center, offering the deep character study the filmmaker is known for.
As we point out in our roofer review, protagonists Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst bring the story to life, their unwavering gazes communicating volumes without a single word. It’s an attractive watch that will likely surprise anyone unfamiliar with the true story. – AS
Wizkid: Long Live Lagos (HBO Max)
Described as “an intimate and moving documentary,” this HBO Max film follows Nigerian singer Wizkid’s journey to global stardom. Throughout its 90-minute runtime, you can expect to see personal scenes, live performances, and an exploration of its impact on cultural perceptions.
The film was directed by Karam Gill, who has made other documentaries focusing on musicians such as Marshmello and Lil Baby. Gill has also directed some of Marshmello’s music videos over the years.
If you’re a fan of Wizkid or interested in discovering new music this weekend, why not dive into Wizkid: Long live Lagos? You may learn a thing or two along the way. – L.B.
