- macOS Tahoe 26.2 is now rolling out to Macs and MacBooks
- It has a new Edge Light function to illuminate your video calls
- Other minor improvements and bug fixes are also included.
In addition to iOS 26.2, Apple also released equivalent software updates for its other devices, and those updates include macOS Tahoe 26.2, with a useful new Edge Light feature to illuminate your face during video calls on Apple Silicon Macs.
As MacRumors reports, the addition of Edge Light is the biggest change in this version. It will use your Mac’s screen “to illuminate your face like a virtual ring light when you’re on a low-light video call.” With newer Macs, introduced in 2024 and later, you can also have the light turn on automatically in low light conditions.
The feature offers customizable light width and temperature settings, so you can adjust the lighting however you prefer, and when you use a mouse or trackpad, the light will instantly recede so you can see what you’re doing on the screen.
We wrote about this feature when the macOS Tahoe 26.2 developer beta was released, and it looks like it could be particularly useful when you’re in a hurry to prepare for a call and don’t have as much time as you’d like to fix the lighting.
Other new features in macOS Tahoe 26.2 include auto-generated chapters in podcasts, built-in links to mentioned podcasts, improved filters in the game library, in-game challenge updates, and support for tethered controllers.
There are also plenty of bug fixes and smaller tweaks, as is typical for a macOS update like this. Navigation has been improved within the Apple News app, for example, while tables in the Freeform app are now more flexible in terms of what they can contain. A Favorite Songs playlist has also been added to Top Picks on Apple Music.
Apple also says that with this update, “AirDrop codes offer an additional layer of verification when using AirDrop with unknown contacts by providing a code on the recipient’s device that the sender must enter to complete the transfer.”
We’ll have to wait and see whether or not that breaks the AirDrop support that Google recently added to its Pixel 10 phones, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise. The macOS Tahoe 26.2 update is now rolling out globally.
