A local court in Lahore on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking to register a case against screenwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar in the honey trap case.
The application was filed by Zainat Bibi, the mother of Amina Arooj, a suspect in the honey trap case, Express News reported.
The case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan.
During the proceedings, Qamar’s lawyer Mudasir Chaudhry informed the court that the petitioner wanted to make certain amendments to the original petition and sought permission to withdraw it.
Following the application, the court granted the petitioner permission to withdraw the application, effectively closing the matter for the time being.
Last year, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court sent nine suspects to judicial remand in the Khalilur Rehman Qamar ‘honey trap’ case.
During the proceedings, the investigating officer confirmed that no further physical remand was necessary.
On July 15, 2024, renowned Pakistani screenwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar was allegedly kidnapped and robbed in Lahore.
He reported the incident to the police on July 21, after being released after paying a ransom.
Apparently, Qamar had been invited to Amna Arooj’s house on the pretext of discussing a drama project.
However, his lawyer claims that he was kidnapped by armed men.
However, Amna Arooj’s lawyer says Qamar’s manager initially contacted Amna under the guise of professional interest, but the interaction allegedly became personal, and Qamar allegedly made demands.
Amna’s lawyer claims that Qamar insisted on another meeting, to which he arrived drunk and pressured her to have a physical relationship, threatening to leak photos if she refused.
Hasan Shah, identified as the alleged mastermind, then arrived and reportedly kidnapped both Amna and Qamar, although the details of their ordeal remain unclear.
Amna later accused the police of torture, claiming they forced her to falsely label the incident as a honey trap. The case continues to develop with important developments.
