Australian track and field star Michelle Jenneke was one of the first athletes to have a truly viral moment in the social media era.

Jenneke’s pre-race routine caught the attention of sports fans around the world during the 2012 IAAF World Championships. The viral moment helped raise her profile and appear in the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

She has generally kept her private life away from Internet vultures, only really posting clips and photos of herself working out or participating in competitions. That was until Sunday when she revealed she was engaged after an eight-and-a-half-year relationship that no one outside of her families and loved ones was aware of.

“8.5 years in the making,” she captioned her photo collage on Instagram.

Jenneke became engaged to Alex Beck, a fellow Australian Olympian. Beck has also kept his relationship with Jenneke a secret.

Jenneke competed in the Australian Olympics at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. Unfortunately, she failed to make it out of the 100m hurdles heats. He suffered a similar incident at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
