- OnePlus has announced the OnePlus 15R, a phone with a 7,400mAh battery, 165Hz screen and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset
- Starts at $699.99/£649 and is available to pre-order now
- The company also launched the OnePlus Pad Go 2 and the OnePlus Watch Lite.
The OnePlus 15 was only launched in October, but the company is already back with another phone that is in some ways even better than this five-star flagship, as the OnePlus 15R was introduced with some cutting-edge specifications of its own.
Perhaps the biggest highlight is its 7400 mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 7300 mAh cell found in the OnePlus 15. This battery also has 80W charging and is designed to maintain at least 80% of its original capacity after four years of use.
Other highlights of the OnePlus 15R include its 6.83-inch AMOLED display, which has a 165Hz refresh rate. That’s compatible with the OnePlus 15 and a higher rate than most phones offer. The screen has 450 pixels per inch, up to 1,800 nits of brightness and can go down to 1 nit when not much brightness is needed.
This phone also has the same 50MP main camera as the OnePlus 15, along with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 32MP front camera, and the ability to record 4K videos at up to 120fps.
As for the differences with its sibling, the OnePlus 15R has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which is slightly inferior to the Elite version used by the OnePlus 15, but should still be very capable. The phone also comes equipped with 12 GB of RAM.
The 15R also has great water resistance, with IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, where most high-end phones are limited to IP68.
So overall, OnePlus’ new phone doesn’t seem like a match for the OnePlus 15, but it doesn’t have to be since it also costs less. The OnePlus 15R starts at $699.99 / £649, for which you’ll get a model with 256GB of storage. There’s also a version with 512GB of storage for $799.99 / £729. For comparison, the OnePlus 15 starts at $899.99 / £899. We’re awaiting confirmation on pricing and availability of the phone in Australia.
If you like the sound of the OnePlus 15R, you can pre-order it starting today, open sales will begin on January 15, and it’s available in a choice of Charcoal Black or Mint Breeze. If you pre-order directly from OnePlus, you can also get freebies while stocks last, including the option of a free pair of OnePlus Buds 4, as well as a £100 discount on the 512GB model.
A tablet and a watch too.
So this phone is a bargain, and it hasn’t landed alone, as OnePlus also launched the OnePlus Watch Lite and the OnePlus Pad Go 2, the latter of which is a tablet with a 12.1-inch display with 284 pixels per inch, a MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra chipset, 8GB of RAM, a 10,050 mAh battery with 33W charging, and stylus support. that is sold separately.
Available in Lavender Drift and Shadow Black shades, the OnePlus Pad Go 2 is available for pre-order now, with prices starting at $399.99/£319 for a 128GB Wi-Fi-only model and rising to £399 for a 256GB 5G version (no word on US availability for that model yet).
As with the OnePlus 15R, if you pre-order the Pad Go 2 now you can get an instant discount (in this case £50) and a free gift, and although the options aren’t mentioned, the value of the gift can apparently be up to £249. If you fancy getting the stylus too, it costs £79.
