Pakistan Navy’s fourth Hangor-class submarine ‘Ghazi’ has been launched at Shuangliu base in Wuhan, China, Inter-Services Public Relations said.
With the launch of the Ghazi, the Pakistan Navy has achieved another major milestone: the four submarines under construction in China are now undergoing rigorous sea trials and are in the final stages of being handed over to Pakistan, the military media wing noted.
Pakistan signed an agreement with China for the acquisition of eight Hangor class submarines. As per the contract, four submarines are being built in China and the remaining four will be built in Pakistan by Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW), through technology transfer, the ISPR added.
The submarines will be equipped with advanced weapons and sensors capable of engaging targets at standoff ranges. The Hangor-class submarines will play a vital role in maintaining peace and stability in regional waters.
The launching ceremony was attended by senior officials from both countries, further demonstrating the deepening of bilateral cooperation.
