On August 23, 2025, it was reported that assistant director Borella “died after collapsing in front of his colleagues while they were preparing to film a scene” on set while working on episode 10 of season 5 of Emily in Pariswhich is set in Venice. He was 47 years old.
According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, “on Thursday around 7:00 p.m. local time doctors were called to the city’s Danieli Hotel, but they could not save him.”
Filming on season 5 of Emily in Paris was temporarily suspended after her death.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden death of a member of the Emily in Paris production family,” a spokesperson for Paramount Television Studios told PEOPLE in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
The episode marks Borella’s first and only assistant director credit.
