The year began with true memecoin mania, where speculative energy and hype ignited on-chain activity. This wave followed the rise of BONK in late 2024, which boosted memecoin activity after some arbitrage traders appeared to be chasing the token airdrop awarded to every Solana mobile device owner.

Shortly after, memecoin mania reached a tipping point in February after a massive international scandal (revealed by CoinDesk) revealed that LIBRA token co-creator Hayden Davis bribed the sister and close advisor of Argentine President Javier Milei to convince Milei to promote the token on social media, sending the entire memecoin ecosystem into a cooldown phase.
Against the backdrop of the LIBRA chaos, the Solana developer ecosystem forged ahead with tangible innovations. The Solana Mobile team launched its second generation crypto phone, the Seeker, designed specifically for on-chain trading and Web3 usage.
