It was a struggle for UNLV in its 17-10 Frisco Bowl loss to Ohio on Tuesday night at the Ford Center. In the fourth quarter, the UNLV tight end tackled his running back at the goal line.

UNLV trailed 17-3 with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter and was in the red zone looking for a touchdown. It was third-and-goal from the Ohio 1-yard line when the drive was sabotaged.

Tight end Matt Byrnes came into motion before the snap and the ball was sacked once he got past the left tackle. His job on the play was to break through the formation and seal the lead, allowing running back Keyvone Lee to cross the end zone for a touchdown.

Instead, Byrnes crossed over and picked off Lee behind the line of scrimmage for a 1-yard loss on the play. Lee took the handoff and ran two steps before being hit by his own teammate.

UNLV ended up scoring one play later on fourth-and-goal when quarterback Anthony Colandrea ran for a score from two yards out, so everything went right on that drive.

However, after scoring the touchdown to cut the score to 17-10, Ohio ran out the clock and never gave the ball back to UNLV. It was the first time UNLV was held under 20 points in 35 games, which had been the longest streak in the nation.

For Ohio, it was its seventh consecutive bowl game victory. Defensive coordinator and interim head coach John Hauser led Ohio to victory after head coach Brian Smith was fired earlier this month for having an affair with a college student.
